The challenge
A founding-stage medical-device company was developing a wearable external defibrillator: a system in which sensing, algorithms, power electronics, embedded control, user interaction, reliability, and formal verification all had to work together.
The work
As a founding engineer and senior principal contributor, I helped establish the embedded hardware and firmware architecture, development practices, and system-level technical direction.
The result and lesson
The project demonstrated the leverage of early architectural judgment. In safety-critical products, decisions made before the organization is large can determine whether the later company inherits clarity—or a maze of hidden coupling and verification debt.
